Approximately 40% of global greenhouse gas emissions stem from the construction and operation of buildings. This gives the construction industry a powerful opportunity to drive positive change – by embracing sustainable architecture to create climate-friendly, healthy buildings and enhance the quality of our built environment.
In each design process, we develop a tailored sustainability strategy that responds to the specific context and project requirements. We seamlessly integrate this with strong urban design principles and a commitment to architectural quality.
The result is added value – for clients and users, for the urban landscape, and for future generations.
Many building materials go through energy-intensive processes — including mining, refining, manufacturing, transport, and delivery — before they’re even used on a construction site.
The carbon emissions generated during these stages are known as embodied carbon.
This also includes emissions from maintenance, repairs, and replacement of materials over the building’s life.
We provide an embodied carbon calculation model for every project. This helps you make informed, climate-conscious decisions when selecting materials – supporting sustainability from the ground up.
Carbon Impact of Materials
To enable our clients making an informed decision on materials in favor of a low carbon impact we provide an embodied carbon assessment for each of our projects.
Other issues to consider is the durability of materials and what maintenance will be required.
Healthy Materials
Particularly for materials used for the interior of your project we prefer using natural, non-toxic and less harmful materials.
During this project stage we refine your preferred concept and develop the project’s core aspects including space allocation, overall layout, and potential cost and timeline estimates. We also include and coordinate the input of other consultants. If Resource Consent is necessary, it can be lodged at this stage.
SUSTAINABILITY ASPECTS
HIGH PERFORMANCE DESIGN
I am passionate about creating spaces that are warm, dry and healthy all year round, while significantly reducing heating energy costs. The result are spaces with a peaceful, calm atmosphere, enhanced by fresh indoor air quality throughout the day.
To achieve this, I use energy modeling to optimise the energy performance of your project. Combined with high-quality building materials and careful detailing, this ensures outstanding performance, long-lasting durability, and real long-term value.
RE-USE OF MATERIALS
Our approach emphasises the reduction, reuse, and recycling of materials, helping to minimize waste and conserve precious resources throughout the building process.
GOOD MATERIALS
I prioritise the use of non-toxic, local, renewable, and natural materials whenever possible — materials that are carefully chosen to minimise environmental impact, support local economies, enhance the health and well-being of the occupants, ensure durability and long-term performance.
